The Importance of Social Media in Digital Marketing
Digital media is the name given to different platforms where people communicate electronically, that is, over the internet.
It is possible to include all kinds of mass media available on the internet in the definition of digital media. Since all digital media is kept in electronic form, there are large amounts of data and content consisting of text, images, audio and video on the internet.
Both media and content are transforming rapidly, and the way people communicate online is also changing accordingly. This situation brings with it new interactive media platforms and social networks. Digital media is this new formation itself. Whether it is to give messages of peace, to show disagreements, to make progress, to call for mass action, or to defend personal opinions, every platform where human expression, social interaction, communication and online education take place falls within the scope of digital media.
The most important feature of digital media is that it has the potential to cause significant changes in people’s lifestyles. People who use digital applications and tools to make creative discoveries, innovate and transform the way they communicate are actually going through a serious change process. For example, Twitter is changing the conversation between people. So much so that there are much different experiences than before on every issue, from state policies to views on social life.
Parallel to the growth of the Internet, images have come to the fore. People are not content with just writing e-mails, they have also started sending photos. Thus, photo sharing sites emerged. In the mid-1990s, audio was added to the digital media “family”; MP3 files started to be used. Thanks to sites that allow audio sharing, music and similar audio files have become included in online sharing.
